Reports: Ravens QB Tyler Huntley To Start Wild Card Against Bengals

Jan 15, 2023, 11:39 AM | Updated: 11:40 am

SALT LAKE CITY – The Baltimore Ravens plan to start former Utah Utes quarterback Tyler Huntley during their Wild Card playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to multiple sources.

The Bengals will host the Ravens for Sunday Night Football on Sunday, January 15.

“It is my understanding per source that Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley will start tonight for the #RavensFlock,” NFL Network’s Stacey Dales reported. “He made good progress this week working through the right shoulder injury. It is a “possibility” the Ravens could use both QBs, in Snoop & rookie Anthony Brown.”

“The #Ravens haven’t named a starting QB, but all signs point to them playing both Tyler Huntley and Anthony Brown at QB in their playoff game vs. the #Bengals, sources say,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added via a post on Twitter.

“The Ravens are planning to use both of their quarterbacks — banged-up backup Tyler Huntley and undrafted rookie Anthony Brown — in Sunday night’s wild-card game against the Cincinnati Bengals,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

Earlier in the week, Huntley was day-to-day with shoulder and wrist injuries.

After not throwing in practice during the week before Baltimore’s regular-season finale, Huntley threw passes during Wild Card game week.

“He’ll throw as much as he’s ready to throw from one day to the next,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said on January 11. Harbaugh added that Huntley was “on schedule” in his recovery.

After throwing in practice, Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman said that Huntley “looked good.”

“It’s day-to-day. He’s making progress,” Roman said of his quarterback. “We take stock on it every day.”

Huntley was sidelined in Week 18 because of the injury.

His recovery is key to Baltimore’s potential playoff success as the Ravens will be without former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson during the opening round of the postseason. Jackson, who has played in over a month, detailed his knee injury in a tweet on January 12.

“There is still inflammation surrounding my knee and my knee remains unstable,” Jackson wrote. “I wish I could be out there with my guys more than anything, but I can’t give a 100% of myself to my guys and fans. I’m still hopeful we have a chance.”

Before missing the regular season finale, Huntley had started four consecutive games for the Ravens. On December 4, Huntley replaced Jackson after he suffered a knee injury during Baltimore’s win over the Denver Broncos.

During his five games played this season, Huntley has helped the Ravens to a 3-2 record, including 2-2 in starts.

He’s thrown for 658 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in 2022. Huntley has also run the ball 43 times for 137 yards and a touchdown.

The Ravens finished the regular season in second place in the AFC North division with a 10-7 record.

Baltimore’s Wild Card game will be on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, January 15 at 6:15 p.m. (MDT). The game will be televised on KSL 5 TV.
