Saints DB Daniel Sorensen Picks Off Deshaun Watson For First INT Of Season

SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU Cougars and current New Orleans Saints defensive back Daniel Sorensen picked off Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson for his first interception of the 2022 season.

The Browns hosted the Saints at FirstEnergy Stadium on Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24.

With 3:06 to go in the third quarter, Watson attempted a pass to David Bell. The pass bounced off the intended receiver’s hands and into the air. Sorensen collected the pigskin and returned the interception 36 yards to the Browns’ 15-yard line.

Four plays later, Alvin Kamara punched the ball into the end zone for a Saints touchdown. The touchdown gave New Orleans a 17-10 lead.

After the pick, Sorensen had three total tackles, one solo tackle, an interception, and a pass breakup.

He’s played in 14 games this season. Before facing the Browns, Sorensen had eight total tackles had six solo tackles in 2022.

The Saints entered the contest with a 5-9 record, including 1-5 on the road.

New Orleans’ game against Cleveland is broadcast on CBS and NFL Sunday Ticket.

About Daniel Sorensen

Before his NFL career, the Colton, California native played at BYU in 2008 and from 2011-13.

During his time with the Cougars, Sorensen recorded 215 total tackles, 126 solo tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, eight interceptions, 18 pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and a touchdown in 51 games played.

After going undrafted in 2014, Sorensen signed a free agent deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. The safety played the first eight seasons of his NFL career with the Chiefs.

In March, the former BYU defensive back signed with the Saints.

Prior to Week 16, Sorensen had recorded 415 total tackles, 320 solo tackles, 4.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, 12 interceptions, 33 pass breakups, and four touchdowns during his nine seasons in the league.
