No. 6 Orem Begins Title Defense With Blowout Victory Over Rival Mountain View

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Orem Tigers rocked crosstown rival Mountain View 51-14 to open their season’s defense of the 5A state title.

No. 6 Orem 51 Mountain View 14

Orem led the Bruins 35-14 at halftime and didn’t stop there. The Tigers scored 16 unanswered points in the second half to close out the game.

Tigers quarterback Micah Fe’a tossed four touchdowns in the win over the Bruins.

Non-Region

Cottonwood 6 Summit Academy 40

Cottonwood scored first with a touchdown pass from James Holm to Joseph Madrigal to go up 6-0 but that was it for the Colts. Summit Academy rattled off 40 unanswered points to pick up the win.

Jaxon Case ran in three touchdowns for Summit Academy while Titan Kilgore caught two touchdown passes.

Desert Hills 24 Murray 7

Desert Hills scored all 24 of their points in the first three quarters. Noah Fuailetolo threw three touchdown passes in the win. Brennen Kupfer scored Murray’s only touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Fremont 42 No. 12 Brighton 56

A high-scoring game at Brighton was led by Bengals quarterback Gabe Curtis, who had 6 total touchdowns, four passing, two rushing. Lander Barton caught a touchdown for Brighton, while Owen Powers ran in two scores.

Highland 6 Bountiful 7

The Braves scored their only touchdown in the first quarter with Boston Malmrose connecting with Brooks Fornelius for a 55-yard score. Highland nailed two field goals in the first and second quarter but couldn’t find the end zone.

No. 16 Kearns 20 Box Elder 3

The Bees picked up a field goal late in the first quarter but was later answered by an 85-yard kick return for a touchdown by highly-touted recruit Jeff Bassa. Charles Henderson had a 70-yard blocked kick returned for a touchdown and also returned an interception 55-yards for a touchdown.

Layton 7 Skyline 21

The Eagles scored 21 unanswered points in the first and third quarters. Braxton Bolingbroke threw two touchdowns in the opening period to Isaac Visser and Roman Franco. Tyler Limpert added a 5-yard TD run in the third quarter. Layton’s only touchdown came in the third quarter when Sione Vailahi scored a rushing TD from eight yards out.

Mountain Ridge 27 No. 11 Olympus 17

Both teams exchanged touchdowns to start the game. Mountain Ridge scored a TD and Olympus kicked a field goal before halftime. Mountain Ridge had two big touchdown runs from Cade Uluave in the third and fourth quarters to stretch the lead to 27-10. Olympus added one more touchdown late in the fourth quarter but Mountain Ridge picked up the upset win.

Ayden Helm threw two touchdowns for Mountain Ridge. Tommy Hoggan had one passing touchdown for the Titans.

Ogden 43 Union (3A) 25

A 29-point second half performance pushed the Ogden Tigers past the Union Cougars for a 43-25 win on Friday night. Ogden’s Jaice Holt threw two touchdown passes in the win.

Park City 35 Wasatch 49

The Wasatch Wasps outpaced the Park City Miners in a high octane game to open the season on Friday evening. Carson Tabarraci threw three touchdowns to lead the Wasps over the Miners 49-35.

No. 10 Skyridge (6A) 33 Alta 13

A 26-point first quarter propelled the Skyridge Falcons to a 33-13 win over the Alta Hawks in the season-opening game. Skyridge quarterback McCae Hillstead accounted for four of the Falcons’ five touchdowns.

Timpanogos 0 Hillcrest 26

The Hillcrest Huskies shutout the Timpanogos Timberwolves 26-0 on Friday night. Hillcrest’s Anthony Vail scored a pair of touchdowns in the win, one on offense and another on defense.

West Jordan (6A) 19 No. 7 East 42

After leading 14-13 at halftime, the East Leopards scored 28 points in the second half to blow out the West Jordan Jaguars 42-19. East’s Amini Amone ran for two touchdowns in the win.

Westlake (6A) 19 Woods Cross 0

The Westlake Thunder traveled north and shutout the Woods Cross Wildcats 19-0 for the road victory. Thunder quarterback Brayden Ross tossed three touchdowns in the season-opening win.
