Reigning 4A Champion Sky View Holds Off Second Half Comeback Attempt By Stansbury

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The 2019 4A state champion Sky View Bobcats held off a furious second half comeback attempt from the Stansbury Stallions to capture their first victory of the 2020 high school football season.

Stansbury 27 No. 14 Sky View 35

After owning a 35-7 lead at halftime, the Bobcats allowed the Stallions to storm back with 20 points in the third quarter to make it a game.

Sky View managed to hold onto the lead and close out a 35-27 win in their first game of the year.

The Bobcats were led to victory by three touchdown passes from quarterback Kasen Carlson.

Pine View 38 Ridgeline 42 (Played at Westlake)

The Ridgeline RiverHawks scored what ended up being the game-winning touchdown with 8:20 left to play to outpace the Pine View Panthers 42-38. Ridgeline quarterback Kaden Cox threw for three touchdowns in the shootout.

Bear River 39 Juan Diego 20

The Bear River Bears captured their first win the of the season with a 39-20 road victory against Juan Diego. Bears running back Kace Jones ran for three touchdowns to lift Bear River over the Soaring Eagle.

Green Canyon 42 Tooele 13

The Green Canyon Wolves ran away from the Tooele Buffaloes 42-13 behind a 22-point second half performance. The Wolves were led to victory by Landon Peterson and Jake Lundin who each accounted for a pair of touchdowns.

Hurricane 21 Richfield (3A) 24

A late touchdown in the fourth quarter pushed the Richfield Wildcats past the Hurricane Tigers for a 24-21 win on Friday night. Richfield quarterback Gavin Brown tossed a pair of touchdowns in the last-minute comeback.

Manti (3A) 15 Crimson Cliffs 20

The Crimson Cliffs Mustangs scored a game-winning touchdown on a 76-yard pass with 1:28 left to play to defeat the Manti Templars. Mustangs quarterback Tyler Brown threw for three touchdowns to carry his team to a season-opening win.

Maple Mountain (5A) 45 Cedar Valley 3

The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles blasted the Cedar Valley Aviators 45-3 to begin the season 1-0. Maple Mountain wide receiver Kyson Hall caught three touchdowns from Mustangs quarterback Tyler Nelson in the blowout.

Payson (5A) 13 Canyon View 40

The Canyon View Falcons posted a dominating performance from start to finish and beat the Payson Lions 40-13 to open the season. Falcons quarterback Jake Garrett tossed three TDs in the win.

Providence Hall (3A) 13 Ben Lomond 28

The Ben Lomond Scots defended their home field and beat the visiting Providence Hall Patriots 28-13 on Friday, August 14. Ben Lomond running back Ryan Alverez ran for three touchdowns to lead the Scots.

Provo (5A) 14 Logan 7

The Provo Bulldogs broke a 7-7 tie by scoring the game-winning touchdown with 2:06 remaining to defeat the Logan Grizzlies. Provo’s Dallin Havea and Jace Welsch ran in the Bulldogs two touchdowns in the win.

No. 19 Salem Hills (5A) 34 Mountain Crest 8

The Salem Hills SkyHawks rode a 34-0 halftime lead all the way to the finish line in a 34-8 win over the Mountain Crest Mustangs. Salem Hills QB Jarret Elmer threw a pair of second quarter touchdowns to carry the SkyHawks on Friday.

Spanish Fork (5A) 14 Cedar City 21 2OT

The Cedar City Reds prevailed 21-14 over the Spanish Fork Dons in double overtime on Friday night. Jaron Garrett connected with Jack Cook on a nine-yard touchdown to lift the Reds to victory. Garrett threw for three touchdowns in the thriller.

Springville (4A) 25 Dixie 22

A one-yard touchdown run by Kaden DeLlamas with 5:09 left in the fourth quarter carried the Springville Red Devils to a 25-22 win vs. the Dixie Flyers. DeLlamas ran for a pair of touchdowns in the three-point victory.

Uintah 10 North Summit (2A) 13

The North Summit Braves converted on a turnover to move past the Uintah Utes for a 13-10 win on Friday night. The Braves’ Ethan Crittenden scored the game-winning touchdown on a 90-yard fumble recovery in the fourth quarter.
