Best Buzzer-Beaters In Utah High School Boys Basketball History

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Bryce Valley Mustangs hit a buzzer-beating shot to defeat the Panguitch Bobcats for the 1A championship.

Bryce Valley defeated Panguitch 36-34 on Saturday, February 29.

The KSLSports.com compiled a list of the all-time best buzzer-beaters from Utah high school basketball.

5. 2017 Springville Red Devils

The 2017 Springville Red Devils needed hit two buzzer-beaters in the state tournament. The first came against Trevin Knell and Woods Cross in the quarterfinals when Bennett Hullinger banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Then in the championship game, the Red Devil were huge underdogs against Rylan Jones and Olympus. Springville’s Seth Mortensen hit a buzzer-beater to tie the game and force overtime. The Red Devils hit a couple of free throws with two seconds left in double overtime to win their first state title since 1958.

4. 2015 Bountiful Braves

Now BYU guard, Zac Seljaas was a hero for Bountiful in 2015. The Braves were trailing the entire game and were down one with only seconds left before Seljaas hit a buzzer-beater. He had 30 points in the game and Bountiful avoided an embarrassing ending. The Braves won the 2015 4A state title.

3. 2006 Bingham Miners

Riverton tied the 2006 5a state championship game on a free throw with 11 seconds left. Bingham’s Brett Sommerville drilled a 10-footer at the buzzer to give Bingham a state title.

2. 2013 Sky View Bobcats

It took a miracle from Sky View’s Jalen Moore in overtime to knock off current Utah State star Sam Merrill and Bountiful. After upsetting Bountiful, Sky View went on to beat rival Mountain Crest for the 4A state title in 2013.

1. 1989 Emery Spartans

31 years later this shot is still discussed. Shawn Bradley and Emery vs. Ryan Cuff and Richfield. It came down to overtime when Emery’s Steve Gordon hit a shot from 60 feet to win the 1989 2A state title.
