Led By Gobert, Jazz Surge In 4th Quarter For Win Over Mavericks

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz picked up a massive win over the Dallas Mavericks 112-107 due to a big performance by Rudy Gobert and a fantastic fourth quarter by the entire team.

Gobert had another big performance and made another strong case for an All-Star game bid. The French big man recorded 22 points, 17 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 blocks, while shooting a perfect 8-8 from the field and 6-9 from the free throw line.

It was the start of a tough stretch for the Jazz, facing 10 teams currently in the playoffs in their next 12 games.

Fourth Quarter Run

In the fourth quarter, Gobert made some clutch plays with a dunk over Mavericks star Luka Doncic and a chase-down block on former Ute Delon Wright. Gobert had 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks in the final period.

The Jazz outscored Dallas 32-23 in the fourth quarter after trailing by four points after three quarters.

Donovan Mitchell finished with a game-high 25 points, along with 8 rebounds, 5 assists and two steals, while shooting 9-25 from the floor and 5-11 from beyond the arc. He scored 11 of Utah’s 32 points in the fourth quarter.

The Jazz trailed by double digits for a good portion of the game, but they made the surge in the final period with some big threes by both Mitchell and Bojan Bogdanovic. The duo combined for 5-7 from downtown in the fourth quarter.

Dallas Started Strong

The Mavericks got off to a great start in the first quarter, scoring 36 points and limiting the Jazz to 25 points. Utah had to continue to chip away at the Mavericks lead. Superstar guard Luka Doncic scored 12 of his 25 points in the opening period.

The Jazz countered in the second quarter by outscoring Dallas 30-22 before the Mavericks slightly scored more than Utah in the third quarter, 26-25.

Seth Curry contributed 19 points and knocked down 4 of his 5 attempts from the three point line. Kristaps Porzingis added 15 points and just 2 rebounds. He struggled shooting the basketball, ending with 6-14 field goal shooting and 3-8 from the perimeter.

Former Ute Delon Wright gave the Mavericks a spark off the bench with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in 31 minutes on the floor.

The Jazz improved their record to 32-13 on the season, winning their last four games and 14 of their last 15. They will return to Vivint Smart Home Arena on Monday to face the Houston Rockets on Monday night. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on NBA TV and AT&T SportsNet.
