Big Fourth Quarter From Gobert, Bogdanovic Helps Jazz Escape Chicago With Win

Jan 2, 2020, 9:13 PM | Updated: 11:49 pm

CHICAGO, Ill. – Utah center Rudy Gobert and forward Bojan Bogdanovic led the Jazz down the stretch in the fourth quarter and helped the team escape the Windy City with a victory.

Gobert and Bogdanovic combined for 16 points in the final quarter of Utah’s game against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, January 2.

The Jazz center led Utah with 6 points on three dunks during the final 6:07 of play.

Bogdanovic entered the final 12 minutes of the game with only 9 points. During the final quarter, he got things rolling and led the team with 19 points in a 102-98 win at the United Center.

The Stifle Tower

With the Jazz up a single possession, Gobert dunked the basketball for the third time down the stretch to extend Utah’s lead to two possessions with a minute left in the game.

Gobert’s defense was suffocating the Bulls during the final minutes of play. He swatted two of his three blocks during the fourth quarter.

The two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year finished the game with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks. He shot 8-11 on field goals and 1-2 from the foul stripe.

Bogey’s Perfection

Bogdanovic struggled in the first three quarters against the Bulls.

He got things rolling offensively when he forced Chicago defenders to foul him on drives to the hoop. Once he went to the line, he couldn’t be stopped. Bogdanovic shot a perfect 6-6 on free throws in the fourth quarter.

Overall, the Jazz forward went 5-13 from the field and 0-5 from behind the arc but he came up big when it mattered most.

Bogdanovic was a flawless 9-9 from the free throw line in the win. He added 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal in 34 minutes.

Jazz star Donovan Mitchell was the focus of Chicago’s defense and was limited in the win. Mitchell ended up with 17 points.

Joe Ingles scored 8 points, pulled down 5 rebounds, and dished out a game-high 10 assists.

Jordan Clarkson and Georges Niang combined for 23 points to lead Utah’s second unit.

The Jazz’s bench scored 36 points against the Bulls.

Utah finished the game shooting 48.7 percent on field goals and 36.7 percent on three-pointers.

The Jazz held the Bulls to 39.4 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from behind the arc.

Chicago was led by Zach LaVine who scored 26 points on 26 attempts.

With the win, the Jazz improved to 22-12 overall and 9-9 away from Salt Lake City. The Bulls fell to 13-22 on the season.

Utah continues its road trip against the Orlando Magic on Saturday, January 4. The Jazz and Magic are scheduled to tip-off at 5:00 p.m. (MDT). The game will be broadcast on NBA League Pass, AT&T SportsNet, and 97.5 FM.
