Future BYU Guard Collin Chandler Receives Latter-day Saint Mission Call

SALT LAKE CITY – Future BYU basketball guard Collin Chandler will be serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Chandler, a four-star combo guard from Farmington High School, announced where he would serve during an Instagram Live.
The live streaming session approached nearly 700 live viewers.

“You’re assigned to labor in the Sierra Leone, West Africa mission,” Chandler announced.
Chandler reports to the Missionary Training Center on July 25.
Before Chandler’s announcement, his followers were taking guesses about where his mission call would be. BYU basketball head coach Mark Pope guessed, “Marriott Center.” Assistant coach Cody Fueger wrote “Annex.” Which I’m sure was good for some laughs.
Last November, Chandler signed with BYU basketball after turning down scholarship offers from Utah, Stanford, Gonzaga, Arizona, and others. He’s the No. 33 overall recruit in the country according to the 247Sports Composite ratings.
Collin Chandler is the latest BYU basketball recruit with plans to serve a mission
Chandler joins BYU basketball players Jake Wahlin and Townsend Tripple out in the mission field. Wahlin is currently serving his mission in Lithuania and will return in the summer of 2023.
BYU will have three returning missionaries for the upcoming 2022-23 season in Fremont’s Dallin Hall, Wasatch Academy’s Richie Saunders, and Union High (Washington) guard Tanner Toolson.
Saunders is serving in Madagascar, Hall in Fresno, California, and Toolson in Jacksonville, Florida.
When the 6-foot-4 Chandler returns home from his mission for the 2024-25 season, BYU basketball will be a member of the Big 12 Conference.
During his final season at Farmington High School this past winter, Chandler averaged 21.7 points per game, earning himself Utah Gatorade Player of the Year honors.
