Real Salt Lake Welcomes New & Old Faces To Training Pitch

SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake welcomed newly signed left-back Bryan Oviedo to the training pitch for the first time since signing with the club on August 4th.

Oviedo, 32, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Real Salt Lake dressing room following over a decade of playing professionally in Europe. Most notably, Oviedo notched 50 appearances for Everton in the English Premier League over a five-year span.

The impressive play from traditional right back turned left back Andrew Brody will make an interesting decision about how manager Pablo Mastroeni includes Oviedo into the rotation. Oviedo will likely not be ready to start a game for a matter of weeks, however, hopefully, he will show that he is fit enough to play a role off the bench following this weekend’s fixture against FC Dallas.

Bobby Wood Close, Kreilach Nearing Return

Real Salt Lake trainings also showcase new inclusions to the track. Striker Bobby Wood, who underwent abductor surgery on June 24, is nearing a return and has been seen training away from the main group. However, Wood has been lacing up his boots, making cuts, and kicking soccer balls. A club representative informs KSL Sports that Wood will likely return to training with the main group on Monday, August 29.

Damir Kreilach is also nearing a return following back surgery in Los Angeles on June 2nd. Kreilach has spent all but five games on the sideline in 2022, as he recovers from the most serious injury of his career to date.

Over the last handful of weeks, Kreilach has been running laps around the training pitch while his teammate’s train. He is yet to strap the boots back on and is still exercising in running shoes. Kreilach spoke to KSL Sports recently where he informed Tom Hackett and Andy Munoz that he is not rushing his return to the pitch, despite his eagerness to get back and help his team.

Earlier this week, Kreilach shared more news with KSL Sports by stating that he is increasing his running capacity every week and is currently able to endure five to six kilometers of consistent running. He is hopeful that he will be able put on the boots and begin knocking the soccer ball around shortly before he makes a return to the main training group.

Musovski Looks Bright

Danny Musovski, who was also recently signed during the transfer window, partook in his first training session with the main group on Tuesday following a six week hiatus with a hamstring strain.

“His movements were really good, he looked really sharp for a first training session,” Mastroeni told KSL Sports following Tuesday’s training.

Ojeda To Arrive Next Week, The Club Hopes

The club is hopeful that Nottingham Forest midfielder Braian Ojeda, who joined via loan with an option to buy, will be on his way to Real Salt Lake shortly. He is currently waiting for his visa appointment in England where he is continuing to train with Nottingham Forest to maintain the appropriate fitness.

The club expects the appointment to occur tomorrow or Friday and is hopeful that Ojeda will arrive in Utah early next week, KSL Sports has been informed by a club representative.

Next Real Salt Lake Match

Real Salt Lake will head on the road for an important Western Conference clash against FC Dallas on Saturday, August 27. The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
