SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz updated the color of the organization’s J-Note statue amid a major rebrand coming to the franchise’s color scheme and jerseys.

On June 13, the Jazz posted on social media to tease an announcement for June 17.

“JC got the sneak peek πŸŽπŸ”.πŸπŸ•.𝟐𝟐,” the Jazz tweeted.

On June 16, a day before the Jazz unveil what Jordan Clarkson got a sneak peek of, the Jazz updated the color of the J-Note statue on the plaza outside of Vivint Arena, where the team plays its home games.

The organization changed the color of the J-Note to purple, which was one of the organization’s primary colors from 1974 until 2004.

After that initial stretch, navy blue replaced blue in Utah’s primary color scheme. Despite the change from purple, the Jazz brought the color back for “Classic Edition” jerseys during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons in honor of the jerseys that the team wore from 1984-2004.

On June 17, the Jazz are rumored to unveil a rebrand featuring the color purple, along with black and a bright highlighter yellow.

The Jazz first unveiled the J-Note statue outside the arena in September 2017. The statue measures at 14-feet high and 21-feet wide. The current and original colors of the statue were navy blue, green, and gold to create a giant figure of one of the team’s secondary logos.

The J-Note statue is one of three statues outside of Vivint Arena. The J-Note statue is located outside of the arena’s main entrance on the northeast corner of the venue. Team legends Karl Malone and John Stockton have statues on the southeast corner of the arena’s plaza.

After Ryan Smith purchased the majority of the Utah Jazz from Gail Miller and her family, the statue colors were changed to black with white trim.

The franchise updated the color to champagne gold with white trim for the 2022 NBA Playoffs.

The special edition gold didn’t last long as the Jazz were eliminated in the first round by the Dallas Mavericks. After losing to the Mavericks, the Jazz removed the black and the J-Note statue returned to its original and current blue, green, and gold colors.

Following the death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant in 2020, the statue became a temporary memorial for basketball fans in Utah to honor the late Los Angeles Lakers star.
