BYU Football LB Viliami Tausinga Enters Transfer Portal

PROVO, Utah – As BYU football begins winding down spring practices, the transfer portal could see an uptick in activity as the Cougars look to identify the players that will be on the 123-man roster this fall.
On Monday, some movement took place as former East High linebacker Viliami Tausinga entered the NCAA Transfer Poral, KSL Sports confirmed.
Tausinga was a three-star recruit in the 2018 recruiting class for BYU. He racked up 150 total tackles and eight sacks on a Leopards defense that featured current Baylor star Siaki Ika. Tausinga also had three interceptions and was a star defensive player for East in 2017 that finished 11-3.
Despite signing in 2018 with BYU, Tausinga still has four years of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career. After graduating from East, Tausinga served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tonga from 2018-2019. Then in 2020 he greyshirted to get ready for college football.
In 2021, the 6-foot-2, 235-pound Tausinga was announced officially as a summer addition to the BYU roster, where he joined the linebacker room.
Last season, Tausinga didn’t record any playing time in games. He was a member of the scout team defense.
Tausinga was on the spring football roster this month and suited up in some practices. But during media observation portions of practice, was not receiving a significant number of reps compared to others in the linebacker room.
Tausinga is the tenth BYU football player to enter the Transfer Portal in the 2022.
