Utah State Dominates Wolfpack On Both Ends In Blowout Win

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah State (3-5, 12-9) picked up their second consecutive Mountain West Conference win as they ran away from Nevada (3-4, 9-9) 78-49.

The Wolfpack hosted Utah State in Reno, NV at the Lawlor Events Center on Saturday, January 29.

The Aggies dominated nearly every facet of play in the first half Saturday night, on their way to building a 45-27 halftime lead.

The Aggies shot 56.3 percent in the opening twenty minutes, including a 38.9 percent clip from beyond the arc, hitting 7-18 threes.

Defensively, Nevada went 1-10 from deep on their way to a dismal 37 percent from the field.

About the only area where the Aggies didn’t outplay Nevada in the opening half was on the glass where the Wolfpack had 18 boards to 13 for the Aggies and six offensive rebounds led to six second chance points.

Utah State continued the onslaught in the second half, coming out of the locker room to deliver a 16-4 back breaking run, increasing the advantage to as much as 34 points in the second half.

The Aggies shot an even 50 percent for the game and knocked down 10 threes as a team.

Defensively, Utah State limited the Wolfpack to a measly 31 percent shooting and they connected on just 2 of 15 three-point shots.

Desmond Cambridge Jr. led Nevada with 12 points and Will Baker was the only other player in double figure scoring.

The Aggies employed a balanced offensive attack with all five starters and six players overall scoring in double figures.

Justing Bean and RJ Eytle-Rock led the team with a dozen points each. Steven Ashworth added a team-leading seven assists along with 11 points while Sean Bairstow and Brandon Horvath each had 10 points.

Winners of two straight, the Aggies return to the the friendly confines of the the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, UT for three consecutive games, led off by the Air Force Falcons, scheduled for a 7 p.m. (MDT) on Tuesday, February 1.
