Jaziel Orozco Called Into Mexican National Team, Real Monarchs Start Youngest Goalkeeper In USL History

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – It has been a busy day for the Real Monarchs who announced that 17-year-old center-back Jaziel Orozco has been called to train with the Mexican National Team on the same day that they started the youngest goalkeeper in USL history; Gavin Beavers.

Bright Future For Orozco

Orozco will train with the Mexican National Team as part of their buildup to the CONCACAF Gold Cup and will subsequently miss at least the next five games for the Monarchs.

“The Club congratulates Jaziel on what will be a fantastic experience with the Mexican National Team,” RSL Assistant General Manager Tony Beltran said. ”The opportunity earned is a credit to the conviction in which Jaziel approaches his craft. We wish him well and look forward to welcoming him back to the Monarchs at the camp’s conclusion.”

Orozco has played in seven out of eight games for the Monarchs this season totaling 630 minutes and has been a key contributor to the backline.

Fellow teammate Gavin Beavers has also made history as he became the youngest goalkeeper to ever start a game in the USL. He is 16 years, 1 month, and 29 days old.

Beavers fills the void left by fellow teenager Jeff Dewsnup who is unavailable due to an undisclosed injury.

Beavers made his appearance against San Antonio FC and made a number of key saves throughout the contest.

Beavers has developed his game at the RSL Academy, further solidifying the importance of the Academy.
