SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz have released fourth-year guard Shaquille Harrison. A source close to the situation confirmed the move to KSL Sports.

Harrison signed a non-guaranteed deal with the Jazz in December shortly after training camp started for the team but was never able to crack coach Quin Snyder’s rotation. The deal would have become fully guaranteed on Wednesday.

The guard was brought in to shore up the Jazz perimeter defense but was buried behind Donovan Mitchell, Mike Conley, Joe Ingles, Jordan Clarkson, and second-year guard Miye Oni in the rotation.

Harrison averaged 1.0 points, 0.5 rebounds, 0.5 assists, and 0.1 steals in 17 appearances with the team.

The veteran owns career averages of 5.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.0 steals across 156 games, including 23 starts, and should be a sought-after commodity on the free-agent market.

Harrison began his NBA career during the 2017-18 season with the Phoenix Suns and spent two seasons with the Chicago Bulls before signing with the Jazz.

With Harrison’s release, the Jazz now have 13 players on the roster, two short of the maximum. The team was roughly $2 million over the NBA luxury tax before waiving Harrison’s $1.6 million contract.

Oni and backup center Juwan Morgan’s contract are also set to be guaranteed on Wednesday.
