SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The NCAA is allowing college football teams to make up their own bowl game after December 19, according to Bryan Fischer of Athlon Sports.

The news comes following multiple weeks of continued cancellation by bowl game committees and now allows Athletic Directors to pursue a further game.

However, schools must oblige by the regulations set forth by the Football oversight Committee–

Games must be played after December 19th and before December 31st.

Neither school exceeds its maximum football contest limit for the 2020-21 season.

Games are played between conference affiliates with, or, for an independent institution, contracted with the cancelled postseason bowl game.

Utah Vs. BYU Possibility

Utah and BYU fans should not get their hopes or expectations up for a postseason clash between the Utes and Cougars.

The Cougars have already accepted a bowl bid to take on the University of Central Florida in the Boca Raton Bowl scheduled for December 22nd.

The Cougars would need to back out of their commitment and begin discussions with Utah to play before any game is played and the chances of that occurring are understandably very slim.

Furthermore, for Utah to remain bowl eligible they will need to beat the Washington State Cougars this upcoming Saturday. Therefore, before any conversations can take place between Utah and BYU, the Utes must cement their post season spot by finishing the year with a victory.

Currently, Utah is 2-2 on the season. A loss to the Washington State Cougars will drop the Utes below .500 and eliminate them from any post season eligibility. A win and a clash between the Utes and BYU Cougars may still be on the cards.
