Pleasant Grove Cracks Top 5 In Newest KSLSports.com Game Night Live Power Rankings

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – After winning their first three games, the Pleasant Grove Vikings have moved their way into the top 5.

Corner Canyon remains in the top spot for the fourth straight week after winning their 29th straight game with their 42-20 win over Bingham.

Each week the KSL Sports team votes on the top 20 schools in the state across all classifications.

Here is the Game Night Live Top 20 power rankings in the state of Utah as voted on by the KSL Sports team entering the fourth week of the season.

20. Herriman Mustangs (1-2)

After a 17-14 win over West Jordan last week, Herriman is back in the power rankings. The Mustangs had a tough stretch to start the season, facing two of the top 10 teams in the state of Utah. Now, their next three games will be against teams ranked in the top 13. Herriman will be put to the test on Friday against No. 12 Westlake.

Next up: vs. No. 12 Westlake (3-0), Friday at 7 p.m.

19. Olympus Titans (1-2)

In a tough defensive battle, Olympus fought back but came up short against then-No. 9 Kearns last week in the Game Night Live Game of the Week, falling to the Cougars, 14-7. A prime opportunity for the Titans to get their second win when they open up Region 6 play against a Murray team that is searching for their first win of the season.

18. Ridgeline RiverHawks (2-0)

The RiverHawks are making their Game Night Live Top 20 power rankings debut this week after winning their first two games of the season. Their Week 2 matchup against Cyprus was canceled after members of the Pirates tested positive for COVID-19. In Ridgeline’s first two wins, they have scored 87 points and have limited their opponents to 45 points.

Next up: vs. Woods Cross (0-3), Friday at 7 p.m.

17. Maple Mountain Golden Eagles (2-1)

Despite a 49-0 win over Timpanogos last week, Maple Mountain moved back two spots in the power rankings. They have dominated in their wins and their one loss was at Pleasant Grove by 5 points. In the wins over Cedar Valley and Timpanogos, the Golden Eagles have dropped 94 points and allowed just 3 points. They will head to Springville to face the Red Devils, who are currently on a two-game losing streak. This is the Region 8 opener.

16. Lehi Pioneers (2-1)

After being shutout by American Fork in the season opener, Lehi has bounced back with two straight wins, including a 28-18 victory over Riverton last week. They will open Region 7 action on the road against Mountain Ridge, who is 2-1 on the season after their 45-6 win over Hurricane last week.

Next up: at Mountain Ridge (2-1), Friday at 7 p.m.

15. Salem Hills SkyHawks (3-0)

The SkyHawks are rolling through their first three games, scoring 89 points and limiting their opponents to 25 points. They will have the week off as they prepare to host Highland on Friday, September 11.

14. Wasatch Wasps (3-0)

The Wasps have coasted through their first three games, posting 111 points and allowed 51 points. They are coming off of a 42-10 win over Viewmont last week. It will be a tough test this week traveling to Pleasant Grove, who is No. 5 in the state.

13. Bingham Miners (0-2)

It hasn’t been the easiest start to the season for the Miners. They had their opening week game against Weber canceled after three of their players tested positive for COVID-19. Then they faced two of the top 5 teams in the state, losing by 50 combined points. They will face a team that is looking for their first win as well and will be eager to get it. Timpview did not play last week after members of the Provo football team tested positive for COVID-19.

Next up: vs. Timpview (0-2), Thursday at 7 p.m.

12. Westlake Thunder (3-0)

Westlake is off to a great start this season. They have outscored their opponents 74-27 after they knocked off Hunter, 25-14 last week. It won’t be easy the rest of the way as the Thunder will face teams that are currently ranked in the top 20 every week through the rest of the regular season. That’s the benefit of playing in a really tough Region 4.

Next up: at No. 20 Herriman (1-2), Friday at 7 p.m.

11. Sky View Bobcats (3-0)

The defending 4A state champions are coasting through their schedule thus far. Scoring 122 points and allowing 48 points. They have dominated the state of Idaho as well with a 45-0 win over Highland last week. They will be out of state again this week as they face Madison in Idaho.

Next up: at Madison, Idaho, Friday at 7 p.m.

10. Roy Royals (3-0)

The Royals have found a way to win close games. Their last two games were won by three points and seven points respectively. They will continue Region 1 play at home against the winless Layton Lancers.

9. Orem Tigers (2-1)

The Tigers hit their first bump in the road after falling to Skyridge, 35-14 last week. In three of their four losses last season, Orem scored 14 points or fewer. Alta is up next for the Tigers, who have won two straight games and have scored 51 points or more in both of those games.

Next up: vs. Alta (2-1), Friday at 7 p.m.

8. Kearns Cougars (3-0)

It was a defensive effort but the Cougars were able to hold off the comeback attempt by Olympus and picked up a 14-7 victory over the Titans. They will begin Region 2 play against Taylorsville this Friday. The Warriors are 1-2 on the year after losing to Cedar City last week, 51-19.

Next up: vs. Taylorsville (1-2), Friday at 7 p.m.

7. Brighton Bengals (3-0)

The Bengals are rolling offensively and have been great defensively in their last two games. Through the first three games, Brighton has scored 129 points and limited their opponents to 62 points. In the last two games, their defense has allowed just 21 points. The Bengals will face a tough defense in Bountiful this week, who has allowed just 16 points in their two wins this season.

6. Davis Darts (3-0)

The Darts have been a force on the defensive side of the ball, allowing 26 points in three games. On offense, they have scored 24 points or more in all three games and 44 points or more in the last two. They will continue Region 1 play on the road against Clearfield, who is searching for their first win of the season.

Next up: at Clearfield (0-3), Friday at 7 p.m.

5. Pleasant Grove Vikings (3-0)

After a 42-0 shutout win over Jordan last week, Pleasant Grove is rolling. Their offense is clicking under offensive coordinator Brandon Doman. The Vikings have scored 96 points and allowed just 21 points. Their defense will be tasked with slowing down a Wasatch offense that has scored 111 points in three games.

Next up: vs. No. 14 Wasatch (3-0), Friday at 7 p.m.

4. Lone Peak Knights (3-0)

One of the best defenses in the state continues to stop everyone in front of them. Allowing just 11 points in three games, every opposing offense will have fits with the Knights. On top of that, their offense has dropped 108 points. Up next is a team desperate for a win in the Farmington Phoenix.

3. American Fork Cavemen (3-0)

The Cavemen offense is cruising through the first three games of 2020. They have posted 129 points and allowed just 40 this season. American Fork beat West, 43-19 last week. They will face East, who is desperate to get a win after losing their last two games.

Next up: vs. East (1-2), Friday at 7 p.m.

2. Skyridge Falcons (3-0)

The Falcons have made a huge splash to start the season, facing three quality teams and getting three blowout wins. Their most recent victim was Orem and they beat the defending 5A champions, 35-14 at home. They have scored at least 33 points or more in all three games and 14 points was the most they have allowed in a game this season. The Falcons started the season ranked No. 10 and are now at No. 2. Skyridge will have the week off as they will prepare to face Jordan on September 11 and then will begin the gauntlet that is Region 4.

1. Corner Canyon Chargers (3-0)

In a back and forth first half, Corner Canyon held just a 21-13 lead at the break. They scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to pick up a 42-20 road win over Bingham in a game that was nationally televised on ESPN. Jaxson Dart threw for 279 yards and 6 touchdowns, while rushing for 132 yards. Talmage Handley caught 4 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Noah Kjar added two touchdown receptions along with one TD catch from both Cody Hagen and Jett Meine.
