Utah Football Places Offensive Lineman London Bartholomew On Scholarship

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The University of Utah football program has awarded a scholarship to offensive lineman London Bartholomew.

Bartholomew found out the news on the team Zoom call. Head coach Kyle Whittingham told the team to unmute their mics and as that happened a graphic appeared on the screen that congratulated London on getting a full scholarship.

After his teammates cheered, Whittingham had a special message.

“You talk about another example of a guy who did nothing but bust his butt,” Whittingham said. “He has done everything the right way, never asked for anything, has worked hard, is a great teammate and a great team guy.”

Bartholomew was happy that all of his hard work paid off.

“Utah has an amazing walk-on program and if you put in your time and commitment into the program it will pay off,” Bartholomew said.

About Bartholomew

London Bartholomew enters his senior season at Utah his third season after playing 10 games in 2016 for Ohio Wesleyan. Bartholomew utilized his redshirt in 2017 and played on the scout team in 2018. Last season, he appeared in two games on the offensive line against Idaho State and Colorado.

The Mesa, Arizona native is a member of the Pac-12 All-Academic honor roll.

2019 Scholarship Videos

Last season during fall camp, head coach Kyle Whittingham awarded three scholarships in three days to his walk-on players. He awarded scholarships to tight end Ali’i Niumatalolo, defensive end Malik Haynes and running back Mason Woodward.

Niumatalolo found out about his scholarship when the team was in a meeting with coach Whittingham, who told the team that they he had a video from Ali’i’s father and Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo. When they played the video, Ken had his team behind him as he was wishing the Utes good luck. At the end of the video he told his son that he was put on scholarship.

Haynes found out about his scholarship during another team meeting with coach Whittingham. A pizza delivery man knocked on the door of the meeting room and entered with a giant box of pizza. The delivery person walked the box to Whittingham, who opened the box and read a note saying that Haynes was put on scholarship. Yes, Haynes enjoyed a slice of pizza after making his speech to the team.

Woodward found out about his scholarship when Whittingham had the equipment managers introduce themselves after the conclusion of fall camp. At the end of the row of managers was a woman wearing a hat and sunglasses. She introduced herself as Woodward’s wife and told him he was on scholarship.
