ST. GEORGE, Utah – Dixie State University has announced a three-game men’s basketball series against in-state foe Southern Utah.
The Trailblazers and Thunderbirds will begin the series in Cedar City at America First Event Center on November 18, 2020. It will mark the first meeting between the schools since the 1962-63 season. That was when both schools were in the junior college ranks.
After the 2020 clash, the series will turn into a home and home series. The dates have not been finalized for that portion.

“We’re excited to play Southern Utah, we’ve been trying for several years to play them and now that we’re going Division I it makes more sense now to reestablish this old junior college rivalry,” said DSU Head Coach Jon Judkins. “I think it’s great for both St. George and Cedar City, and the entire southwest region of Utah, and if we can keep this going it will be a fun rivalry for years to come.”
Dixie State will begin their first season as a Division I school this upcoming season. They will be in the Western Athletic Conference which is the same conference that Utah Valley plays in. The Trailblazers will begin their WAC slate on the road against Utah Valley in Orem on January 2.
Neither Dixie State or Southern Utah have announced their complete 2020-21 basketball schedules but should be in the coming weeks.
