Southern Utah Flies To Easy Victory Over Idaho On Senior Night After Big First Half

CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah men’s basketball team coasted to an easy Senior Night victory after recording a big first half against the Idaho Vandals.
The Thunderbirds hosted the Vandals at America First Events Center on Saturday, February 29.
Southern Utah blitzed Idaho during the first 20 minutes of game time to take a 43-15 lead at halftime.
T-Birds guard Cameron Oluyitan had an impressive first half against the Vandals. During the opening half of play, Oluyitan scored 15 points on 5-7 field goals including 4-5 from three-point range. He added 3 rebounds and 2 assists as the Thunderbirds went to the locker room with a 28 point advantage.

During the first half, Southern Utah shot 54.8 percent including 58.3 percent from downtown. The Thunderbirds limited Idaho to 28.6 percent from the field and 12.5 percent from the arc during the first 20 minutes of the game.
Southern Utah maintained its lead during the second half and closed out the final 20 minutes for an 87-55 win.
Oluyitan finished the game with 22 points on 8-13 field goals to lead the T-Birds.

The Thunderbirds closed the game shooting 54.1 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from distance.
Idaho shot 40.7 percent for the game including 27.8 percent from three.
The Vandals were led by Trevon Allen and Scott Blakney who each scored 17 points.
With the loss, Idaho fell to 7-22 on the season and 3-15 in Big Sky Conference games.
Southern Utah improved to 15-14 and 8-10 in conference play.

The Thunderbirds travel to Montana State (15-14) to play the Bobcats on Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m. (MDT).
