SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz set a franchise record for the most wins before the NBA All-Star break by defeating the Miami Heat.

Utah hosted Miami and Vivint Smart Home Arena on Wednesday, February 12.

The Jazz and Heat entered the second meeting of the season and last game before the NBA All-Star weekend with identical records of 35-18.

Winning Ways

After trailing by five at halftime, the Jazz responded by outscoring the Heat by 10 points in both the third and fourth quarters to win 116-101. It was Utah’s fourth straight victory.

As stated by the Jazz television broadcast, the victory gave Utah its most wins before the NBA All-Star Game in franchise history. The previous high was 35 victories.

Utah’s win percentage at the break is .667 equaling the 7th best in franchise history and the highest since 2006-07.

Hitting On All Cylinders

Three Jazzmen scored 20 points or more against the Heat.

Utah all-star Donovan Mitchell led the Jazz with 26 points on 9-16 shooting including 4-8 from distance.

“I think aggressive for Donovan means attacking the rim,” said Jazz head coach Quin Snyder after the game. “When he does that, usually other things begin to open up.”

Mitchell added 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in 35 minutes on the court. Mitchell recorded a +17 plus-minus rating against the Heat.

Jazz forward Bojan Bogdanovic poured in 22 points on 9-17 field goals and 3-6 from three. He added 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the win.

Jordan Clarkson led Utah’s second unit with 21 points on 8-12 shooting including 4-6 on triples.

Utah all-star Rudy Gobert added a double-double of 16 points and 20 rebounds in 37 minutes. Gobert recorded 5 offensive boards, 1 assist, and 2 blocks. He posted a team-high plus-minus rating of +25.

The Jazz finished the game shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three.

Miami shot 43.2 percent for the game and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

“What I really liked, to be honest with you, was the defense,” said Snyder. “When we defend, we can get out and that gets you some rhythm.”

The Heat were led by all-star Jimmy Butler who scored 25 points on 10-21 field goals. Butler added 8 rebounds and 1 assist in 33 minutes. He suffered an ankle injury in the middle of the game. After getting assistance in the locker room, Butler was able to return and finish the game.

Heat all-star center Bam Adebayo finished the game with 9 points on 4-10 field goals. He added 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks in the loss.

Miami moved to 35-19 on the season and 13-16 on the road.
