AMHERST, Ma. – The BYU-UMass game was not the easiest game in terms of viewer experience. Unless you paid $20 to sign up for FloFootball.com, you probably didn’t watch the Cougars 56-24 win over the Minutemen.

If you missed any of it, we’ve got you covered. Here are all the key highlights from BYU’s win that moves the Cougars to 7-4 on the season. UMass’ regular season is now over as they finish 2019 at 1-11 in Walt Bell’s first year as head coach.

First Quarter

BYU got the scoring started on their second offensive series when quarterback Zach Wilson connected with running back Tyler Allgeier for a 57-yard touchdown. Allgeier moved from linebacker to running back earlier in the week after Sione Finau went down with a season-ending non-contact injury in practice.

Second Quarter

BYU’s second quarter was historic. The Cougars scored 42 points in the second, the most points scored in the history of BYU football in a single quarter.

Running back Lopini Katoa who was in protocol last week was cleared to play moments before kickoff by team doctors. Katoa scored his fourth touchdown of the season.

Back in August, quarterback Zach Wilson said wide receiver Talon Shumway was one of the more reliable receivers on the team. “Just throw it up to Shumway!” Wilson did just that with a deep-pass to the senior receiver.

Wilson found Lopini Katoa in the flat and Katoa ran it in for his second touchdown of the day.

True freshman running back Jackson McChesney’s first touchdown as a BYU Cougar showed off his top-end speed.

BYU’s defense then got involved in making some highlight-worthy plays. Senior defensive lineman JJ Nwigwe picked off UMass’ backup quarterback. It was Nwigwe’s first interception of his career. Moments later, Wilson found Gunner Romney in the endzone for another touchdown pass.

Last week, Aleva Hifo was a late scratch due to a freak injury in pregame warmups on Senior Day. He returned on Saturday against UMass and scored on a jet sweep.

Third Quarter

Jackson McChesney shows off the wheels once again.

Fourth Quarter

BYU’s defense that featured many young players allowed UMass to move into the red zone. The Cougar defense toughened up and stopped the Minutemen on a 4th & Goal. One play earlier, safety Hayden Livingston made a touchdown-saving tackle on 3rd & goal to force the fourth down.
