Chargers DB Alohi Gilman Forces, Recovers Fumble On Monday Night Football

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Orem High standout and current Los Angeles Chargers safety Alohi Gilman forced and recovered fumbles by the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.

The Jets hosted the Chargers at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Monday, November 6.

With 11:02 remaining in the opening quarter, Jets quarterback Zach Wilson connected with Garrett Wilson for a seven-yard completion before Gilman came up from the secondary to punch the ball free. Los Angeles’ Derwin James recovered the ball at the Chargers’ 29-yard line.

The Chargers owned a 7-0 lead at the time of Gilman’s forced fumble.
Late in the game, Chargers linebacker Khalil Mack punched the ball free from Wilson’s possession in the backfield. Gilman scooped the ball up and returned it into the red zone.
Los Angeles took advantage of the turnover by scoring a touchdown to take a 27-6 lead with 3:22 left in the fourth quarter.

Los Angeles ended up winning the game, 27-6.
The Orem product finished the game with four total tackles, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Gilman entered the game with 22 total tackles, 15 solo tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups in four games played this season.

With the win, the Chargers improved to a 4-4 record.
Los Angeles’ next game is at home against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, November 12 at 2:05 p.m. (MDT) on CBS.
About Alohi Gilman
Prior to his NFL career, Gilman played high school football for the Orem Tigers in Orem, Utah, and Kahuku High School in Laie, Hawaii.
Gilman attended Notre Dame and played for the Fighting Irish after high school.
During his time in South Bend, the safety played in 26 games for the Irish. He recorded 169 total tackles, 91 solo tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery.

After his college career, the Chargers picked the former Tigers and Irish safety with the 186th overall pick during the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
During his four seasons in the league, Gilman has posted 124 total tackles, 80 solo tackles, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and six pass breakups in 46 games.
