SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU Cougars and current Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Kyle Van Noy recorded a strip sack and fumble recovery during Week 17 against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Chargers hosted the Rams at SoFi Stadium on New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1.

With 6:15 left in the third quarter, Rams quarterback Baker Mayfield was pressured by Van Noy before he was stripped of the football. After the sack and fumble, Van Noy jumped onto the loose ball and recovered it for the Chargers at their 39-yard line.

At the time of Van Noy’s defensive highlight, the Chargers led the Rams, 24-10.

After the play, Van Noy had two total tackles, one solo tackle, one sack, and a fumble recovery. Entering Week 17, Van Noy had recorded 39 total tackles, 26 solo tackles, three sacks, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups during his first season with the Chargers.

About Kyle Van Noy

After a standout career at BYU, Van Noy was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Following two and a half seasons with Detroit, the linebacker was traded to New England. Van Noy played the next three and a half seasons with the Patriots and helped New England win a pair of Super Bowls.

After the 2019 season, the linebacker signed with the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins released Van Noy after one season in South Beach and he returned to New England on a two-year deal. The 2021 season was the lone year of Van Noy’s second stint with the Patriots.

Van Noy signed with Los Angeles in May 2022.

Before the Chargers game, Van Noy had posted 463 total tackles, 314 solo tackles, 31.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries, three interceptions, 28 pass breakups, and one touchdown in 126 games played during his NFL career.
