Saints’ Taysom Hill Starts New Year With Rushing Touchdown Against Eagles

SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU quarterback Taysom Hill began 2023 by scoring a touchdown and nearly blocking a punt during the New Orleans Saints‘ game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles hosted the Saints at Lincoln Financial Field on New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1.
With 6:02 remaining in the opening quarter, Hill burst through the offensive line and across the goal line for a rushing touchdown.
The score helped the Saints take a 7-0 lead.

The run capped a 15-play, 75-yard drive that took 8:58.
After the score, Hill had four carries for 10 yards and a touchdown. He was also 1/1 passing for seven yards on the Saints’ opening drive.
Four plays later, the former BYU star almost blocked a punt by the Eagles.
Rush for a TD. Four plays later: Go for the punt block.

Hill entered Week 17 with 77 carries for 505 yards and six touchdowns this season. He’d also recorded seven receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns and thrown for 216 yards and two touchdowns this season.
The Saints entered the game with a 6-9 record.

About Taysom Hill
Prior to his NFL career, the Idaho native was a quarterback at BYU. Hill played for the Cougars from 2012-16.
During his college career, Hill threw for 6,929 yards, 43 touchdowns, and 31 interceptions. He ran for 2,815 yards and 32 touchdowns.
After going undrafted, Hill signed a free agent deal with the Green Bay Packers. Before the regular season, Hill was waived by the Packers and picked up by the Saints. Since then, Hill has become a key piece of New Orleansā offense.

This past offseason, the ex-Cougar signal-caller transitioned from quarterback to tight end.
During his five seasons in the NFL, Hill has run for 23 touchdowns, caught nine touchdowns, and thrown 10 touchdown passes. He’s thrown for 2,241 yards, run for 1,688 yards, and hauled in 454 receiving yards.
