PROVO, Utah – After a hectic few days last week, the focus for BYU basketball in the transfer portal is now on adding players. A pair of talented transfer portal guards will be taking in official visits to Provo.

It starts with former Kansas State and Coastal Carolina guard Rudi Williams. The fifth-year senior guard announced on Twitter that he would be on BYU’s campus on Monday.

Coastal Carolina’s Rudi Williams is on campus

“BYU visit today #GoCougs,” wrote Williams. Williams has BYU among his final eight schools, including Butler, UConn, California, George Mason, San Diego State, Wichita State, and Xavier.

A 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect that originally hails from Canada, Williams started 26 games in his one season with the Chanticleers. He finished second on the team in scoring averaging at 14.7 points per game.

Williams shot 44.7% from three-point range last season at Coastal Carolina.

Before Coastal Carolina, Williams had stops at Kansas State and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Whichever school Williams signs with will be his fourth different program in the last four years.

Prolific Scorer Antoine Davis set to visit

Along with Williams visiting, BYU will also host Antoine Davis from Detroit. College basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported that Mike Davis (Antoine’s father, Detroit head coach) told him the younger Davis would be on campus at BYU on Thursday.

Davis currently has a top-five that includes BYU, Georgetown, Kansas State, Maryland, and Detroit. Over the weekend, Davis concluded a trip to Kansas State that he recapped on Twitter by writing, “That was the best visit I went on (emoji) thank you coaches for having me. Manhattan, thank you for having me.”

In four seasons at Detroit Mercy, Davis racked up 2,734 points, which is good for 22nd all-time in men’s college basketball scoring leaders. Davis is two spots ahead of former BYU guard Tyler Haws, who scored 2,720 points in his four years with the Cougars.

Davis averaged 26.1 points as a freshman, 24.3 his sophomore year, 24.0 points during the COVID season of 2020-21, and 23.9 points this past year. Coached by his father, Mike Davis (former Indiana head coach), Davis is one of the top bucket getters in college basketball.

BYU Basketball needs a guard

BYU has lost five players to the Transfer Portal this off-season. The Cougars have yet to add anyone from the portal. Mark Pope’s staff needs a guard that can replace the void left by Alex Barcello and Te’Jon Lucas, who both completed their college eligibility this past season.

BYU does have three newcomers on the guard line already in the plans for next season in returning missionaries Dallin Hall (Fremont), Tanner Toolson (Union HS in Washington), and Richie Saunders (Wasatch Academy). All three will be going through their first collegiate season together this winter.
