SALT LAKE CITY – Former American Fork High star Isaac Johnson is returning to Utah.

Johnson, a 7-foot big man who completed a year with the University of Oregon, announced that he is committed to continuing his collegiate career with the Utah State Aggies.

“Hey Aggies, let’s run it,” wrote Johnson.

Johnson appeared in 13 games during the 2021-22 season with the Oregon Ducks. Last year was Johnson’s first college basketball season after serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ohio.

Johnson averaged 2.4 points and 1.1 rebounds in close to six minutes of action during his appearance this past season.

Coming out of American Fork High, Johnson was the 74th overall recruit in the class of 2019 in the industry-standard 247Sports composite ratings. He held offers from Gonzaga, BYU, Utah, Stanford, USC, Wake Forest, Kansas State, and Utah State.

Johnson joins a Utah State program that finished 18-16 overall in Ryan Odom’s first season as head coach. The Aggies’ season came to a close against Johnson’s Ducks in the first round of the NIT. Johnson played four minutes in that game.

Now Johnson will be donning the Aggies uniform beginning next season. With this being Johnson’s first undergrad transfer, he will be eligible to play immediately in the 2022-23 season. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Johnson joins a transfer portal class for the Aggies that also includes Saint Joseph’s 6-8 forward Taylor Funk.

The Aggies are looking to replace frontcourt starters from last season in All-MWC performers Justin Bean, who declared for the NBA Draft, and Brandon Horvath. So Johnson could have an opportunity to compete for playing time right away.
