SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Monarchs goalkeeper Jeff Dewsnup has been announced to this week’s USL Championship Team of the Week following his monstrous nine-save haul against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks last Friday evening.

Dewsnup, 17, added a wonderful penalty kick save to help keep the Monarchs in the game in the final minutes of the first half. Colorado Spring Backs striker Hadji Barry was the one who took the kick and had he scored he would have broken the single-season USL Championship goal-scoring record.
Furthermore, Dewsnup’s penalty kick save has also been nominated for this week’s Save of the Week.

Seven of the nine saves by Dewsnup came in the penalty area.
Sadly, the Monarchs were unable to keep a clean sheet as they conceded the equalizing goal in the 95th minute and settles for a draw.
It was a spectacular game for Dewsnup who solidified himself as the Monarchs starting goalkeeper and long-term future backup to current Real Salt Lake goalkeeper David Ochoa.
Dewsnup has been one of the very few bright spots for the Monarchs this season. The Monarchs have been eliminated from the postseason and have struggled with consistency throughout the entire season.
The Monarchs will play their final home game of the 2021 season when they host RGV Toros this Wednesday (October 27) evening. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
