Maizen Fausett Leads Southern Utah To Bounce Back Win Over Weber State

CEDAR CITY, Utah – After losing to the Wildcats on Thursday in Ogden, the Southern Utah Thunderbirds got revenge with a 77-72 win over Weber State.
The first half was close throughout as Southern Utah had a 6-point lead lead over Weber State but that was the largest margin of the half. SUU took a 38-34 lead into the halftime break.
Early in the second half, Southern Utah was up by as much as 10 points off of an 8-1 run. Weber State tied the game at 70 and eventually took a one-point lead with 1:19 left in the game.
Out of the SUU timeout, Damani McEntire made a layup to retake the lead for the Thunderbirds with 47 seconds left. Isiah Brown missed the jumper at the other end but Weber collected the offensive rebound. Dontay Bassett turned the ball over with 16 seconds remaining in the game.
SUU picked up a pair of free throws from Aanen Moody to put them up by three. Brown missed the potential game-tying three with two seconds left and John Knight III sealed the win with two free throws.

Maizen Fausett led Southern Utah with 24 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and 11-for-13 from the foul line. Tevian Jones added 17 points and 4 triples in the win for the Thunderbirds. Harrison Butler was massive for them off the bench with 18 points, while making all seven of his free throw attempts.
After shooting just 34 percent from the field and 22 percent from the three-point line on Thursday night, Southern Utah improved offensively, shooting 41 percent from the floor and 32 percent from beyond the arc.
For Weber State, Isiah Brown led all scorers with 26 points and 6 rebounds. Zahir Porter chipped in 12 points. They were the only two Wildcats that reached double figures. Their shooting decreased from Thursday, making 39 percent of their shots and just 29 percent of their three-pointers.

Southern Utah improved their record to 11-3 overall and 6-2 in Big Sky play. They will hit the road for a two-game series with Idaho State on Thursday, January 28 at 7 p.m. MST and Saturday, January 30 at 12 p.m. MST. Both games will be streamed on Pluto TV 1061.
Weber State dropped to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play. They will be on the road to take on Idaho for a two-game series beginning on Thursday, January 28 at 7 p.m. MST and then on Saturday, January 30 at 1 p.m. MST. Both games will be streamed on Pluto TV 1060.
