No. 7 Juan Diego Cruises To First Round Win Over No. 10 South Summit

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The seven-seed Juan Diego Soaring Eagle eliminated No. 10 South Summit, 42-16 in the first round of the 3A state football playoffs.
The Eagles had 6 rushing touchdowns in their first round win. Dominic Lewis led the way with three scores, Tyler Easter added two and Dallas Larson chipped in one. For South Summit, Kyler Sudweeks, threw a TD pass to Caleby Thompson and ran in one as well.
Juan Diego will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 2 Morgan (5-2) on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.

Here are all of the results from the first round of the 3A State Football Tournament.
No. 9 Manti 27 at No. 8 San Juan 41
San Juan pulled away from Manti after they scored 34 points in the second and third quarters. The Broncos picked up six total touchdowns from Jace Palmer, who threw four TD’s and ran in two scores. He connected with Cooper Black three times and Ladd Ivins once. For the Templars, Jax Parry threw touchdown passes to Hayden Wade and Tyson Brenchley. Adam Demille and Tyler Taukeiaho each ran in a TD in the loss.
San Juan will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 1 Juab (9-1) on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.
No. 13 Union 14 at No. 4 Richfield 17
After trailing 7-3 entering the fourth quarter, Richfield rallied with two touchdowns including the game-winning score with less than a minute remaining. Gavin Brown threw a touchdown pass to Will Robinson late in the game, while Kasey Giddings ran in a TD early in the fourth for the Wildcats. Union had a touchdown pass from Boone Latham to Chandler Culp. Latham also ran in a score on the ground.
Richfield will move on to the quarterfinals to battle No. 12 Delta (3-7) on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.
No. 12 Delta 14 at No. 5 North Sanpete 13
The Rabbits pulled off a big upset over North Sanpete. The Hawks scored 13 unanswered points in the first half. Delta scored two touchdowns in the second half and held North Sanpete scoreless. Austin Topham and Oran Finlinson scored the two Delta touchdowns on the ground. Brady Jacobson connected with Parker Lee through the air, while Laramie Roberts had a rushing TD for North Sanpete.
Delta will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 4 Richfield (9-1) on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.
No. 15 South Sevier 0 at No. 2 Morgan 58
The Trojans scored three defensive touchdowns as Ty Wheeler and Ryker Adams each had a pick six, while Ryder Lish recovered a fumble for a touchdown. Lish also scored a rushing touchdown as did Zach Millward. Tanner Belinski led the way with three rushing TD’s.
Morgan will move on to the quarterfinals to battle No. 7 Juan Diego (5-5) on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.
No. 14 American Leadership 9 at No. 3 Summit Academy 29
After a 14-3 first half lead by Summit Academy, the bears scored 15 points in the fourth quarter while holding American Leadership to 6 points in the final period. The only TD for American Leadership came from Nathan Burton connecting with Jason Messerly. For Summit Academy, Jaxon Case ran in two touchdowns with Titan Kilgore adding one rushing score. Joe Garlick threw a pass to Kilgore in the end zone.
Summit Academy will move on to the quarterfinals to battle No. 6 Grantsville (5-5) on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.
No. 11 Emery 14 at No. 6 Grantsville 47
The Cowboys scored all 47 points in the first three quarters. Blake Thomas ran in three touchdowns with Cage Johnson adding one rushing TD. Caleb Sullivan and Logan White each threw a touchdown, finding Josh Staley and Kaden Kelley. For Emery, Jace Mangum found the end zone on the ground. Luke Stilson had a pick six in the second quarter.
Grantsville will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 3 Summit Academy (8-2) on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.
