Russian Guard Zakhar Vedischev Has Committed To Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State men’s basketball program has received a commitment from Russian guard Zakhar Vedischev.
The Aggies announced the signing on Monday.
“We are thrilled to announce that Z will be joining the Aggie family,” head coach Craig Smith said. “Z is a skilled guard with excellent size at 6-6. Although just a freshman, he brings a wealth of quality experience to our program.”
Vedischev had an excellent showing at last summer’s FIBA U19 World Cup in Crete, including a 24-point performance against the United States. He was a starter in the VTB league with Lokomotiv Kuban.

Head coach Craig Smith has also recruited Polish center Szymon Zapala and Ukranian guard Max Shulga during the off-season to compliment Portuguese center and incoming junior Neemias Queta.
Last season, Utah State finished the regular season in second place in the Mountain West standings before taking their second consecutive conference tournament title when they knocked off San Diego State. The NCAA Tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Utah State is turning to a youth movement with the departure of star guard Sam Merrill and point guard Abel Porter who transferred to Ohio State.
