SALT LAKE CITY – We never thought we would live in a world where everything was shut down. But good things always come out of difficult times, we just didn’t realize those good things would come in the form of Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer hopping on TikTok.
Detmer, BYU head coach Kalani Sitake, and wide receiver coach Fesi Sitake all responded to a dance trend started by former BYU running back/wide receiver Reno Mahe called “throwback dance battle.” During this time where we are all yearning for some entertainment, these guys and their families delivered.
Round 2: #throwbackdancebattle
Where u at Scott and Willis?
We’ve got “The Right Stuff”!
Took us all day to find it, but we got it now!🥴😂@ScottWarner18 @Simi_Fehoko @tate28 @Jasen_AhYou @jswaggdaddy @kalanifsitake @BYUfootball @fsitake @TyDetmer14 @JackDamuni @terrellowens pic.twitter.com/Dtr54yrkC4— Reno Mahe (@RenoMahe) March 27, 2020
Kalani Sitake and his family responded with some Earth, Wind, and Fire. Folks, if this Global Pandemic continues into football season, Coach Kalani might find himself a career in dancing because he is feeling himself at the moment.
He and his daughter Sadie Sitake won the dance challenge at Sadie’s dance studio for their performance to a Beyonce song this past weekend. Now, this? There’s no sophomore slump from Coach Sitake and his family on the popular social media dances.

Now we have Fesi Sitake and his wife Holly getting in on the fun. As someone who has three kids six years old and younger, this is my speed right here. A fire remix to “Baby Shark.” This might be the version of Baby Shark I could listen to on loop over and over again and not want to pull my hair out.
Alright @RenoMahe, we don’t have grown kids, so we did it Kid Style! Here is “Sitake Family #2” challenge! I nominate @CoachAfeaki & @ursua05 for a family dance! #QuarantineBattle pic.twitter.com/teKk0TU7MJ

Then out of nowhere, Ty Detmer gets in on this action bringing us a TikTok meme. “CORONAVIRUS!” For those not on TikTok (follow KSL Sports on TikTok), it’s a popular meme on the popular video-sharing app.
It doesn’t touch his performance against Miami in 1990, but Detmer shows that same moxie that made him a BYU legend.
This is about all you’ll get out of me! No country songs on Tik Tok 😂 pic.twitter.com/ebwoZySfft
