SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah guard Donovan Mitchell capped off a Jazz run to start the third quarter against the New York Knicks with an impressive slam dunk.

Mitchell’s slam completed a 10-0 run by the Jazz to begin the second half of the team’s game against the Jazz guard’s hometown team, the New York Knicks, on Wednesday, January 8.

Utah center Rudy Gobert opened the half with an alley-oop dunk a minute into the third quarter. A few possessions later, Jazz forward Royce O’Neale connected on back-to-back triples. Mitchell’s jam was the fourth and final bucket of Utah’s run before the Knicks score on a Taj Gibson dunk with 8:30 left in the quarter.

After Mitchell’s slam, the Jazz held an 82-53 advantage with 8:42 left in the third quarter.

The margin was Utah’s largest lead of the game.

Mitchell’s bucket gave him 14 points on 5-8 shooting against the Knicks. The Jazz star went 2-5 from three while adding 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal during his first 17 minutes on the court.

The Jazz came out of the locker room continuing to shoot the ball effectively. For the game, Utah shot 61.7 percent on field goals and 47.8 percent on threes.

For comparison, the Knicks were shooting 38.6 percent overall and 27.3 percent from downtown.

Utah’s length and athleticism dominated the Knicks through the first 27 or so minutes of the game.

The Jazz held an advantage rebounding the ball 32 to 21.

Utah’s presence in the post was evident as the Jazz outscored the Knicks 34 to 22 on points in the paint.

At the end of the third quarter, the Jazz led New York 95-69.
