Mitchell Struggles In Team USA’s OT Thrilling Win Over Turkey

SHANGHAI, China – The United States Men’s National Basketball Team was able to barely sneak by Turkey with a 93-92 win in overtime in the group stages of the FIBA World Cup of basketball.
Utah Jazz and USA guard Donovan Mitchell struggled in the win, scoring just nine points to go with his four rebounds, four assists and two steals. He shot 3-of-12 from the field, including 0-for-3 from two-point range and 3-for-9 from downtown in 30 minutes.
In the first group game on Sunday against the Czech Republic, Mitchell led the team with 16 points.

Milwaukee Bucks All-Star Khris Middleton scored 15 points to lead the United States, including two made free throws with 2.1 seconds left in overtime to give them the win. Boston Celtics guard Kemba Walker chipped in 14 points. As a team, the U.S. shot just 35 percent from two and from the three-point line. They made 27 of their 77 field goal attempts.
Ersan Ilyasova led Turkey with 23 points and 14 rebounds, while the team converted 43 percent of their field goals, but the difference in the game was their free throw shooting, making just 14-of-23.
Team USA will finish Group E play against Japan, who is winless in their first two games. The game will be Thursday morning at 6:30 a.m. on ESPN+.
