SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU and NFL legend Steve Young congratulated and took a photo with Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and his wife following Super Bowl LVII.

Reid and the Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35, to win the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 12.

The victory gave Reid his second Super Bowl ring as a head coach and third overall.

After the game, Young stood on the field at State Farm Stadium in Arizona and congratulated a fellow former BYU Cougar. The all-time great quarterback shared the photo on his social media.

“Couldn’t be happier for my old college JV coach!!! Love you Tammy and Coach!” Young tweeted.

Young played at BYU from 1980-83. Reid played for the Cougars from 1978-80. Young is a three-time Super Bowl champion.

With the win, Reid became the 14th head coach in NFL history to win multiple Super Bowls, nine of which are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Reid has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowls, all of which have come during the last four seasons.

Prior to the game, the prospect of Reid retiring after the big game became a real conversation after the head coach spoke with Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer.

However, after the win, Reid seemed to put some of that talk to bed.

“I think I am going to hang around,” the former BYU player and graduate assistant said.

In 2020, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes signed a 10-year, $503 million extension with Kansas City. After inking the deal, Mahomes said that Reid’s future plans played “a huge part” in his decision to sign an extension with the Chiefs.

At the time, the two-time NFL MVP said that he spoke with Reid and the head coach did not plan to retire “anytime soon.”

“Yeah I talked to him I think before I signed the deal,” Mahomes said. “He had no thoughts on retiring anytime soon. I mean obviously, that’s a huge part in it.”

Reid now owns a head coaching record of 269–154–1, including 22-16 in the postseason.

About Andy Reid

Reid played college football at BYU and returned to Provo as a graduate assistant on BYU head coach LaVell Edwards’ staff.

After a few years of coaching in college, Reid accepted a position with the Green Bay Packers in 1992.

He received his first NFL head coach position with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999. Reid led the Eagles to an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIX where they fell to the New England Patriots 24-21. After the 2012 season, Reid’s contract with the Eagles wasn’t renewed.

In 2013, he was hired as the Chiefs’ head coach.

Reid led Kansas City to a 31-20 over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.

He has helped the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl in three of the last four seasons.
