SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU football player and graduate assistant Andy Reid plans to evaluate his coaching future with the Kansas City Chiefs after the conclusion of Super Bowl LVII, according to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer.

The NFL insider spoke with Reid on the morning of the Super Bowl, Sunday, February 12.

Glazer reported that Reid is currently trying to enjoy the moment of being in another Super Bowl and plans to decide on his future after the big game.

“He said, ‘Look I’m not getting any younger. I still have a young quarterback. I have a decision I have to make after this game,'” Glazer recounted Reid’s comments to him.

In 2020, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes signed a 10-year, $503 million extension with Kansas City. After inking the deal, Mahomes said that Reid’s future plans played “a huge part” in his decision to sign an extension with the Chiefs.

At the time, the two-time NFL MVP said that he spoke with Reid and the head coach did not plan to retire “anytime soon.”

“Yeah I talked to him I think before I signed the deal,” Mahomes said. “He had no thoughts on retiring anytime soon. I mean obviously, that’s a huge part in it.”

Reid owns a head coaching record of 268–154–1, including 21-16 in the postseason.

The former Eagles coach will take on his old team in Super Bowl LVII. The game between the Chiefs and Eagles is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. (MDT).

About Andy Reid

Reid played college football at BYU from 1978-80 and returned to Provo as a graduate assistant on BYU head coach LaVell Edwards’ staff.

After a few years of coaching in college, Reid accepted a position with the Green Bay Packers in 1992.

He received his first NFL head coach position with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999. Reid led the Eagles to an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIX where they fell to the New England Patriots 24-21. After the 2012 season, Reid’s contract with the Eagles wasn’t renewed.

In 2013, he was hired as the Chiefs’ head coach.

Reid led Kansas City to a 31-20 over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.

He has helped the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl in three of the last four seasons.
