SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU Cougars and current New Orleans Saints defensive back Daniel Sorensen picked off Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold for his second interception of the season.

The Saints hosted the Panthers at Caesars Superdome on Sunday, January 8.

With 1:47 left in the fourth quarter, Darnold unloaded a deep pass intended for DJ Moore. Sorensen picked off the pass and returned the ball 14 yards to the Carolina 35-yard line.

It was Sorensen’s second interception in the last three games.

Four plays later, the Saints weren’t able to take advantage of the turnover as they missed a potential go-ahead field goal. In the final seconds of the game, the Panthers made a field goal to capture a 10-7 victory.

Sorensen finished the game with four total tackles, three solo tackles, one pass breakup, and an interception. The safety entered the Week 18 game with 21 total tackles, 12 solo tackles, two pass breakups, and an interception this season.

With the loss, the Saints finished the season with a 7-10 record, including 4-5 at home.
