Utah State’s Ike Larsen Named To CFN Freshman All-American Team

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State redshirt-freshman safety Ike Larsen has been named Honorable Mention on the CFN Freshman All-America Team.

College Football News made the announcement on Tuesday, December 6.

Larsen joins former Utah State football defensive back Jalen Davis (2014), linebacker Kyler Fackrell (2012) and kickoff returner Kevin Robinson (2004) as the fourth player in school history to earn Freshman All-America recognition.

“Every week he just gets better,” head coach Blake Anderson said.

“He has a phenomenal career ahead of him. Glad he is wearing our colors. Can’t wait to see how he progresses, grows and develops.”

Larsen played in 11 of 12 regular season games for Utah State in 2022. He missed the final game of the regular season at Boise State and is not expected to play in the First Responders Bowl against Memphis.

Larsen finishes the season with 33 total tackles and two sacks. He also leads USU with four interceptions and blocked three kicks on special teams.

About Ike Larsen

Larsen burst on the scene for the Aggies when he picked up a sack of Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Bryce Young and blocked a punt in Utah State’s blowout loss at Alabama.

These plays, along with interceptions in each of USU’s first two games showed that Larsen was ready for major college football after sitting out his initial season with the Aggies as a redshirt.

Before he donned Aggie blue, Larsen played his prep football in the shadow of Utah State’s Maverik Stadium, just a few miles away in neighboring Smithfield, UT at Sky View High School.

Larsen won two 4A state championships with the Bobcats while being featured in every facet of the game.

As a senior, Larsen was named first team all-state by MaxPreps.com and the Deseret News. The defensive back contributed 55 tackles, four interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. As a wide receiver/gadget player, Larsen caught 24 passes for 565 yards and five touchdowns. He also carried the ball 19 times for 197 yards and four scores.

Utah State (6-6, 5-3) will face the Memphis Tigers (6-6, 3-5) of the American Conference on Tuesday, December 27 in Dallas, TX.

The Aggies are 3-4 all-time against Memphis. This will be the first meeting between these two programs since 1977 when USU lost 31-26 in Memphis. This will be the second neutral sight meeting as Utah State defeated Memphis 28-14 in a game played in Salt Lake City, UT in 1967.
