AL KHOR, Qatar (AP) — The United States frustrated England in a 0-0 draw on Friday for its second consecutive tie in the World Cup.
The result might not match the U.S.’ famous 1-0 win from the 1950 tournament, but it was the latest occasion in which the Americans defied the odds against the Three Lions.
England is still waiting for its first win in three World Cup matches against the U.S. after a 1-1 draw in South Africa in 2010.
USA Impressive
The U.S. came close to recording a second victory over England at a World Cup after creating several scoring chances, including a first-half shot by Christian Pulisic that smashed the crossbar.
Weston McKennie fired over the crossbar from eight yards in the first half. The ball was crossed in by Tim Weah and the McKennie chance was the best of the first half for either side.
Christian Pulisic beat England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and hit the woodwork with his left foot.
STILL UNBEATEN 💯🏴

Harry Kane missed a stoppage-time header for England after Luke Shaw played a wonderful ball into the area. Kane misjudged his header attempt and pushed the ball well wide of the woodwork.
Nevertheless, the United States looked to be the more dominant side and was certainly the team that created more goal-scoring opportunities.
The issue for the USA remains at the point of the attack. No central striker has shown that they are capable of helping the United States to victory. Weah and Christian Pulisic are wonderful wingers, but manager Gregg Berhalter continues to search for an adequate number 9.
England knew victory would guarantee progress to the knockout stages, but a draw still keeps them at the top of Group B with four points. The U.S. is third with two points and needs a win against Iran on Tuesday to advance.
A draw against Iran will not be enough for the United States to advance following Iran’s 2-0 victory over Wales earlier today.
