SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz are the only team in the NBA that did not release a city edition uniform for the 2022-23 season.
On Thursday, the league unveiled the city edition jerseys for 29 of the 30 teams, with the Jazz as the lone holdout.
The city editions debuted in the NBA during the 2017-18 season with Nike taking over the league’s jersey branding. The Jazz first city edition featured a yellow-to-red gradient which the team wore for three seasons.
That popular city edition jersey was replaced by the team’s black dark mode jerseys ahead of the 2020-21 season.
This past June, the Jazz unveiled a nearly entirely new jersey lineup featuring three new uniforms, and a purple mountain “classic” alternate.

The Jazz redesign featured white, black, and spotlight yellow jerseys capitalizing off the success of the team’s previous dark mode city jersey.
In addition to the three main jerseys in their rotation, the Jazz also made a surprise announcement by releasing two purple jerseys that will be worn in future seasons.
The city edition for the 2023-24 season is a redesign of the traditional mountain jerseys. The uniform channels the team’s purple roots, while capitalizing on the popular gradient scheme from the original city jersey.
The team also released their classic jersey for the 2023-24 season harkening back to the New Orleans Jazz era. The uniform features the original logo before the J-Note in the word Jazz featured the seems of a basketball.

Along with the uniforms, the Jazz also have two new floors that they’ve played on at Vivint Arena this season.
One floor features the black Jazz Note logo at half court while the city court features the Jazz mountain logo at midcourt.
Winners And Loser In NBA’s New City Edition Jerseys
The response to the NBA’s new city editions jerseys have been mixed, with teams like the Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons receiving praise for their designs, and the Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets drawing scorn.

The Suns turquoise jerseys pay homage to the history of Arizona’s Native American culture, while the Pistons’ uniforms were designed to honor Saint Cecilia’s, a historic gymnasium in Detroit where several basketball legends from the area grew up playing.
The Hornets’ “CLT” uniforms honoring the city’s airport code were widely panned, while the Warriors’ were criticized for the large gold rose adorning their black city edition jerseys.
