Tony Finau Shares Embarrassing Moment From Rookie Season

SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau has shared the story of an embarrassing moment from his rookie season where he needed to pass gas despite a gallery surrounding him.
Believe it or not, professional golfers struggle with similar worries and concerns that the average weekend golfer loses sleep over.
The need to pass gas while enjoying a walk in nature will always prove daunting while enjoying the company of others and believe it or not, it is an issue that professional golfers also deal with.
In 2014, during the first professional start of his career at the Frys.com Open, Finau was standing on the 1st tee box – his 10th hole of the day – when he passed gas after pulling his club back to begin his backswing.
“There’s a nice little crowd around and I tee my ball up and they announce my name,” Finau told British pro Andrew Johnston and his co-host, John Robins, on the Beef Golf Club podcast. “And as soon as I take the club back…I ripped one of the loudest farts you’ve ever heard.”

“I just decided that I was going to do it,” Finau said. “I knew it was coming, but I take it back, and almost simultaneously, as the club is kind of rising back, you hear this, like, really loud [makes fart noise]. And I end up still hitting the shot.”

Finau Enjoying His Off-season
Finau is currently enjoying time away from the game following a long 2021/22 PGA Tour season that culminated in a United States victory against the International team in the Presidents Cup.
It is likely that Finau will not tee it up again on the PGA Tour until the new year when he annually visits Hawaii to take part in the Sony Open. During the break, Finau has continues to spend time on the golf course working on his game. But is also enjoying time alongside select media members where he is sharing stories such as this one.
Finau is joined by a long list of the world’s top golfers when it comes to taking a break from the game. Yesterday, Max Homa shared a letter on social media where he stated that he too is also going to spend some time away from the course.
