SALT LAKE CITY – Former NFL quarterback Drew Brees gave his old teammate and current New Orleans Saints tight end Taysom Hill a shoutout and called the former BYU star “my hero” after his four touchdown performance in Week 5.

Drew Brees calls Taysom Hill his ‘hero”

Hill and the Saints hosted the Seattle Seahawks at Caesars Superdome on Sunday, October 9.

New Orleans beat Seattle, 39-32, behind Hill’s four touchdowns.

After the game, Brees, who played for the Saints from 2006 until he retired after the 2020 season, posted about Hill on his Instagram account.

“One of a kind! You’re my hero bro!” the Super Bowl champion quarterback captioned a video post of Hill’s highlights from the game. “They didn’t even show the blocking. The dude can do everything.”

Later, Hill responded to Brees’ post. “My guy! Miss you bro!” the former BYU star replied.

Brees and Hill played three seasons together as quarterbacks for the Saints from 2018-20.

Jameis Winston took over as Brees’ replacement in 2021. Hill lost the starting job in training camp, but ending up replacing Winston midseason because of a season-ending injury to the Florida State product. Hill switched positions before the 2022 season after Sean Payton retired from being the Saints’ head coach.

Taysom Hill Scores Four Touchdowns

Three of Hill’s touchdowns against the Seahawks came on the ground and one came through the air.

The former BYU became the third player since 1950 to have at least three touchdowns, 100 rushing yards, and a passing touchdown in a single game, joining Ronnie Brown and LaDainian Tomlinson, according to NFL Research.

Hill’s first score came with 10:54 remaining in the first half when he took a direct snap and ran up the middle for eight yards and into the end zone.

Three drives later, the Seahawks fumbled the ball on a punt and Hill recovered the ball at the Seattle 13-yard line. After a run by Alvin Kamara, Hill took another direct snap and ran the ball nine yards and across the goal line for another score.

With 36 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Hill lined up at quarterback and connected with fellow Saints tight end Adam Trautman for a 22-yard score. It was Hill’s first passing touchdown this season. The Hill-Trautman connection gave the Saints a 31-19 lead.

With 5:22 left to play, Hill broke loose for a 60-yard house call and his fourth score. Hill’s third touchdown run put the Saints up 39-32.

Hill finished the game 1/1 passing for 22 yards and a touchdown. He added nine carries for 112 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

With the win, the Saints improved their record to 2-3 this season.

New Orleans’ next game is at home against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, October 16 at 11 a.m. (MDT) on CBS.
