Former Weber State DB Recovers Muffed Kickoff By Steelers

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Weber State and current Buffalo Bills cornerback Taron Johnson recovered a fumble after the Pittsburgh Steelers muffed a kickoff.

The Bills hosted the Steelers at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York on Sunday, October 9.

After opening the game with a touchdown drive on its first possession of the day, Buffalo kicked off to Pittsburgh with a 7-0 lead.

James Pierre muffed the catch at the Steelers’ 25-yard line. Johnson hopped on the pigskin and recovered the ball at the Pittsburgh 21-yard line. It was Johnson’s first career fumble recovery.

Unfortunately for the Bills, five plays later, the Steelers blocked a Tyler Bass field goal attempt.

Johnson entered the game with 24 total tackles, 15 solo tackles and a pass breakup in four games this season.

The Bills entered the game with a 3-1 record, including 1-0 at home. Pittsburgh arrived in New York with a 1-3 record, including 1-1 on the road. The Steelers are currently on a three-game losing streak.

Buffalo’s game against Pittsburgh is televised on CBS.

About Taron Johnson

Prior to his professional career, Johnson was a standout player at Weber State. The Sacramento, California natvie played at Weber State from 2014-17. During his Wildcat career, Johnson was named a First Team All-American selection and Big Sky Conference Defensive MVP. He helped Weber State to back-to-back playoff appearances and a Big Sky title in his final season.

After his time with the Wildcats, Johnson was selected by the Bills during the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Johnson is currently in his fifth NFL season, all with Buffalo. He owns career totals of 286 total tackles, 211 solo tackles, six sacks, four forced fumbles, three interceptions, 23 pass breakups, and one touchdown in 59 games.
