SALT LAKE CITY – Utah State quarterback Logan Bonner officially announced that his playing career with the Aggies has come to an end after suffering a season-ending injury.

Bonner started USU’s first four games of the season before sitting out in a loss to BYU on Thursday, September 29. After the loss, Aggie head coach Blake Anderson said that Bonner’s college playing career was likely over.

The senior signal-caller confirmed the news on Twitter on Friday, September 30.

“Aggie Nation, I want to say thank you for giving this Texas boy a chance to represent this university and welcoming me into your city with open arms. Sadly my time at USU has come to an end with a season ending injury. I have given my heart and soul into this program, but now it’s time to give that energy to the program in a different way. To my teammates, coaches, the entire football staff, from strength to trainers to equipment, and to everyone I talk to every day. I love each and every one of you. I am so sorry for how things have ended but I truly have no regrets. Love, LB” – Logan Bonner

Before the BYU game, multiple reports came out that Bonner had suffered a leg injury and wouldn’t dress to play against the Cougars. Former Orem High standout Cooper Legas started in place of Bonner.

After the game, Anderson said that Bonner would continue as a member of the Aggiesā€™ football program and would mentor Legas.

Last season, Bonner suffered a season-ending injury and was under heavy pressure throughout Utah Stateā€™s first four games of the 2022 season.

This season, Bonner has thrown for 754 yards, six touchdowns, and eight interceptions with a 56.4 completion rate. In Week 4, Bonner threw five interceptions in a 34-24 loss to UNLV.

With Bonner at quarterback, the Aggies dropped three straight games after a season-opening win against the UConn Huskies. USU suffered its four consecutive loss with Legas starting against BYU.

In 2021, Bonnerā€™s first season with USU, the former Arkansas State signal-caller threw for 3,560 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He helped lead the Aggies to their first Mountain West Conference title and a bid to the LA Bowl.

Bonner suffered a knee injury in Utah Stateā€™s 24-13 win over the Oregon State Beavers in the bowl game. Legas replaced the injured Bonner and led the Aggies to an 11-point win over the Beavers. The former Orem Tiger ended the contest 11/20 passing for 171 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Against BYU, Legas was 19/31 passing for 188 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also ran the ball for 52 yards on 19 carries.

With the loss to the Cougars, the Aggies fell to a 1-4 record this season, including 0-2 on the road.

Utah State’s next game is at home against the Air Force Falcons on Saturday, October 8.
