PROVO, Utah – Utah State head coach Blake Anderson said that quarterback Logan Bonner has likely played his last game for the Aggies.

The coach revealed the news during some his postgame comments following USU’s 38-26 loss at No. 19 BYU on Thursday, September 29.

Anderson said that Bonner would continue as a member of the Aggies’ football program and would mentor Cooper Legas, who started against the Cougars.

As reported before the BYU game, Bonner didn’t dress due to play because of a leg injury.

Last season, Bonner suffered a season-ending injury and has been under heavy pressure throughout Utah State’s first four games of the 2022 season.

This season, Bonner has thrown for 754 yards, six touchdowns, and eight interceptions with a 56.4 completion rate. In Week 4, Bonner threw five interceptions in a 34-24 loss to UNLV.

With Bonner at quarterback, the Aggies dropped three straight games after a season-opening win against the UConn Huskies. USU suffered its four consecutive loss with Legas starting against BYU.

In 2021, Bonner’s first season with USU, the former Arkansas State signal-caller threw for 3,560 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He helped lead the Aggies to their first Mountain West Conference title and a bid to the LA Bowl.

Bonner suffered a knee injury in Utah State’s 24-13 win over the Oregon State Beavers in the bowl game. Legas replaced the injured Bonner and led the Aggies to an 11-point win over the Beavers. The former Orem Tiger ended the contest 11/20 passing for 171 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Against BYU, Legas was 19/31 passing for 188 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also ran the ball for 52 yards on 19 carries.

With the loss to the Cougars, the Aggies fell to a 1-4 record this season, including 0-2 on the road.

Utah State’s next game is at home against the Air Force Falcons on Saturday, October 8.
