SALT LAKE CITY – Local players Taron Johnson and Zack Moss helped the Buffalo Bills defeat the reigning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams in the 2022 NFL season opener.

The Rams hosted the Bills at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Thursday, September 8.

Bills Beat Rams In Season Opener

Buffalo soundly defeat Los Angeles, 31-10.

Johnson, a former Weber State Wildcat, helped the Bills defense shutdown Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and the rest of the Rams offense. Moss, an ex-Utah Ute, was a duel threat out of the backfield.

After Buffalo took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, L.A. outscored the Bills, 10-3, in the final 15 minutes before halftime.

In the second half, the Bills scored 21 points while shutting out the Rams.

For the Rams, Bobby Wagner had great performance in his debut with Los Angeles. The former USU linebacker had seven total tackles (second on the Rams), five solo tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, and one quarterback hit.

Former Utah Utes and current Rams kicker Matt Gay was 1/1 on field goals (made from 57 yards) and 1/1 on PATs.

Locals Terrell Burgess and Jonah Williams were active for the contest, but didn’t record any stats on the game’s final box score.

With the result, the Bills moved to a 1-0 record and the Rams dropped to 0-1 to start the season.

Buffalo’s next game is at home against the Tennessee Titans on Monday, September 19 at 5:15 p.m. (MDT) on ESPN. Los Angeles’ next contest is at home against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, September 18 at 2:05 p.m. (MDT) on FOX.
