PROVO, Utah – BYU football kicker Jake Oldroyd is once again a watch-list candidate for the Lou Groza Award.

Oldroyd, who is a fifth-year junior, earns his second preseason Groza Award watch list designation. The other preseason nod came last season.

The Lou Groza Award is presented annually to college football’s best kicker. The Palm Beach County Sports Commission creates the Groza Award watch list.

Two years ago, Oldroyd was a finalist for the top honor given to a college kicker. He was a perfect 13-of-13 during the COVID-impacted 2020 campaign. He appeared in 11 of BYU’s 12 games that season.

Last year, Oldroyd only appeared in 10 of BYU’s 13 due to tightness in his back. His accuracy in the 2020 season took a step back in 2021. Oldroyd finished 9-of-13 on field goal attempts and 42-of-43 on extra points.

A native of Southlake, Texas, Oldroyd has had an impactful career thus far at BYU. In 2019 (88 points) and 2020 (99), he led BYU in scoring.

Oldroyd is sixth all-time in most points scored by a BYU football player with 266. He’s six points away from tying former BYU running back and current RB coach Harvey Unga for fifth in scoring.

Oldroyd and the BYU football program open the 2022 season against the South Florida Bulls on Saturday, September 3, in Tampa on ESPNU and KSL NewsRadio.

Speaking of the Bulls, USF’s kicker Spencer Shrader is one of five opposing kickers BYU will face during their 2022 schedule.
