BOCA RATON, Florida – BYU football kicker Jake Oldroyd is a finalist for the 2020 Lou Groza Award. The sophomore kicker from Southlake, Texas, is one of three players to be named a finalist for the prestigious award given to college football’s top kicker.

Joining Oldroyd as finalists for the award are Jose Borregales of Miami (Florida) and Will Reichard of Alabama.

Oldroyd finished the regular season a perfect 13-for-13 on field goals, the most by an FBS kicker without a miss this season. More than half of those kicks came from at least 40 yards out, including three from over 50. That gives him more 50-yard FGs in a perfect season than any FBS kicker since at least 2004.

Jake Oldroyd has been perfect this season

Since the Lou Groza Award began awarding the top kicker in college football in 1992, BYU has never had an individual win the award.

Oldroyd was among 20 semifinalists narrowed down to three by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission on Tuesday.

The three finalists will be honored at the 29th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Virtual Awards Celebration, streamed live on January 4th on lougrozaaward.com. This year’s Lou Groza Award winner will be announced live on ESPN at the Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, January 7th.

Fans can have a role in the voting for the Lou Groza Award winner on the Lou Groza Award website. The finalist with the most fan votes will be given one official vote on the final ballot.

Oldroyd has been a clutch kicker for BYU during his career with the Cougars. He had game-winners against Arizona in 2016, a game-tying make against Tennessee in 2019, and has been automatic from everywhere this season.

Oldroyd and the No. 13 ranked BYU Cougars will close out the 2020 season on Tuesday against the UCF Knights at 5 p.m. (MT) on ESPN and KSL NewsRadio.
