Tony Finau Listed In Featured Group Ahead Of This Weeks Mexico Open

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s Tony Finau will be featured heavily on the broadcast throughout the opening two rounds of the Mexico Open, the PGA Tour announced today.

The Golf Channel will carry the first two rounds of play while CBS will take over for the weekend’s proceedings.

Finau, who is yet to play in a competitive tournament since finishing T35 at The Masters, will tee it up with the hope of bettering last year’s 14th place finish.

Finau will play alongside local Mexican star Abraham Ancer and Kevin Na throughout the opening two rounds. The inclusion of Ancer will inevitably provide Finau with an opportunity to showcase his skill set in front of a large gallery of fans following their beloved Ancer.

The tournament will take place at Vidanta Villarta in Vallarta, Mexico, located on the west coast.

Strong Competition

Finau is joined by a large list of the world’s top golfers. Reigning champion Collin Morikawa is not in the field, rather, world number three and close friend to Finau Jon Rahm is the highest-ranked golfer in the field at number three in the world. Understandably, Rahm is also the favorite to win the tournament.

Other notable figures include Gary Woodland, Carlos Ortiz, Cameron Champ, Brendon Todd, Patrick Reed, and Charles Howell III, among others.

This year will mark the first time that the Mexican Open will be sanctioned as an official PGA Tour event with the purse set for $7.3 million, the winner to receive $1,314,000 and 500 FedEx Cup points.

This year will also mark the return of the Mexico Open which was forced to be moved to Florida last year due to the global pandemic.
