SALT LAKE CITY – Alex Kirry and former NFL quarterback Scott Mitchell discussed the future of Green Bay Packers quarterback during a recent episode of Unrivaled.

The conversation on whether or not the former Utah State standout would “get a shot” in the NFL was sparked following some comments by Green Bay’s CEO and Aaron Rodgers’ new contract extension with the packers.

“We think he can be a good player, but we haven’t seen enough,” Packers CEO Mark Murphy recently said of Love in an interview with Tom Grossi. “So I think this preseason will be good for him.”

“I know that the decision to draft him has been questioned by a number of people, but that’s such an important position in our league,” Murphy said. “They said the same thing when we drafted Aaron.”

Mitchell said “you’re always proving yourself” until you’ve become a consistent player in the NFL.

Love was originally selected by the Packers during the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Since then, Rodgers has gone on to win back-to-back NFL MVP awards. After being inactive for every game of his rookie season, Love played in six games, including his first NFL start.

The Aggie alum underwhelmed NFL analysts in his first and only start throwing for 190 yards, one touchdown, and one interception with a 55.9 percent completion rate.

“I think he’s looked at like a guy that hasn’t had his opportunity yet,” Mitchell said. “More than likely he’s gonna get his opportunity when he doesn’t expect it.

Despite his limited action, Mitchell believes that Love will get an opportunity, even if it’s not in Green Bay.

“Somebody out there probably likes Jordan Love and somebody out there is probably like ‘we might have a better situation for Jordan Love,'” Mitchell said.

The former NFL quarterback said that Love will need “to be ready to play” because his chance will arrive.

Love wrapped up his second NFL season with 411 passing yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. He had a 58.1 completion rate.

You can listen to the podcast above for the full conversation on Love’s future. Unrivaled can be heard on weekdays from 3-7 p.m. (MDT) on The Zone Sports Network.
