Former Masters Champion, BYU Alumni Mike Weir Misses Cut At The Masters

SALT LAKE CITY – Unfortunately, 2003 Masters champion and BYU alumni Mike Weir has missed the cut at The Masters following a second-round score of four-over-par.

Weir, 51, began his second round at two-over-par but was unable to continue his good work from Thursday and capitalize on an early Friday tee time.

Friday morning began with seven consecutive pars for the Canadian before cracks began emerging in his round. On the par 5 8th hole, Weir missed a five-foot putt up the hill and suffered his first bogey of the day to move to three-over-par on the tournament.

Then, on the par 4 9th hole, Weir three-putted again when he missed another five-foot look at par. A par on the long par 4 10th hole calmed the nerves.

Amen Corner began with another bogey for Weir on the long par 4 11th hole. His second shot nearly went out of bounds and was forced to hit his third to 20 feet which he left short to tap in for his third bogey in a four-hole stretch.

Another bogey fell on the 14th before his lone birdie of the day on 15. Weir’s round was capped off with a bogey on 18.

Weir missed the cut by two shots and will fail to improve on his previous 12 cuts made at Augusta National.

The Leaderboard

World number one Scottie Sheffler leads the field by two strokes midway through his second round sitting at five-under-par. Shane Lowry, Charl Schwartzel, and Im Sung-jae sit at three-under-par while defending Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama is at two-under-par.

Utah’s Tony Finau is sitting at even par with 5 holes still to play.
